HFW foundry wedges, the ergonomic alternative to traditional hand tools
The removal of risers and feeders from castings with traditional hand tools is a tough job. Holmatro has developed a series of hydraulic foundry wedges that is easy to handle and position. Wedging with these tools reduces the physical exertion and it increases the productivity, without damaging the castings.
Research in the field
Holmatro carried out a thorough research in the biggest foundries in Germany. During the research the work in practice with a foundry wedge, hung form a balancer, was closely examined. Findings: the operator, standing behind the tool, has the largest possible freedom of movement when the hoses are assembled in the middle, on top of the tool. Such a positioning of the hoses also ensures that the roll-over-point of the tool lies forward. Therefore, the wedge can easily be tipped over and rotated in every direction.
During the design stage of the HFW foundry wedge, our engineers emphasised these ergonomic aspects. A new concept was brought to life: a completely rotatable tool, implicating that the operator can reach almost any feeder and riser without the need to reposition the casting first. Unnecessary heavy handling is avoided. The tools ergonomic design significantly reduces the physical burden on the operator, which obviously results in a more efficient production process.
A Holmatro foundry wedge has two standard suspension points:
• suspension point 1 positions the tool horizontally
• suspension point 2 can be used for angular positions
• for vertical positioning a third suspension point can be supplied upon request
Additional product features
Other distinctive features of our HFW foundry wedges are the ‘pistol’ control grip, a high operation speed, durable wedge blades and quick blade replacement (in only 30 seconds). With this new generation hydraulic foundry wedges Holmatro is leading in terms of ergonomics and quality.
