Rescue Experience Japan
During three days of training, Holmatro and distributor Akao & Co., Ltd. were able to share their experience with a total of 150 rescuers in the Chugoku region of Japan. The fire departments of Hiroshima, Fukuyama and Okayama City received the one-day training sessions lead by Holmatro Rescue Consultant Ian Dunbar with great enthusiasm.
Urban Search and Rescue
In this earthquake-prone country, earthquakes and landslides are relatively frequent. Therefore the fire departments are always looking for more and new ways to create access to victims. They showed much interest in PowerShore, Holmatro’s powerful emergency shoring system. At the training facilities we practised scenarios that demonstrated not only the pneumatic struts, but also the powerful hydraulic struts.
Other tools for rapid access were demonstrated and tried as well, such as the PowerWedge and the Concrete Crusher, as well as the lifting bags.
Like in many other countries, the Japanese car industry develops its latest vehicles with new materials and constructions. Ian Dunbar presented some of those developments. He highlighted the fact that although materials such as ultra high strength steel may give the impression that creating access is becoming increasingly difficult, Holmatro cutters such as the CU 4050 C can still cut them effectively at relatively low working pressures.
Of course, the theoretical part was quickly followed by hands on experience and all rescuers present were able to try the tools and techniques for themselves.
