Positioning a generator on to a trailer

Positioning industrial objects and installations on to a trailer for transportation. Commissioned by Daher, Holmatro supplied 200 tonnes aluminium step cylinders.

Location: Germany

Situation

Daher is, among other things, specialized in heavy and special transport, just like the transportation of generators. The transportation of this kind of installation is often done by trucks.

Challenge

Daher uses step cylinders to position heavy loads on to a trailer. In order to handle exceptionally heavy loads of above 150 tons, a different solution was needed.

Solution

Holmatro has developed compact step cylinders (also called climbing jacks) with a capacity of 200 tonnes and a stroke length of 120 mm. Both the double-acting cylinders and the step plates are made of aluminium in order to keep the total weight as low as possible. The step cylinders are also fitted with a roll saddle for protection of the plunger and to accommodate any eccentric loads.

Holmatro step cylinders are the perfect solution in situations when a greater vertical movement of an extremely heavy load is required than can be achieved with standard cylinders

Not only Daher is excited about the functionality of our step cylinders. Fabricom are also glad to deploy Holmatro's climbing jacks.

An employee from Fabricom stated: “Our core business is the engineering, construction and maintenance of storage tanks. Using the Holmatro Step Cylinder Set, we can lift the storage tanks in a controlled way and, if required, in four segments. This avoids any damage to the tanks during the procedure. The adjustable head makes it easier to position the cylinder under the temporary support. Thanks to this solution, our people can carry out their work more safely and efficiently.”
